School Information and Policies - Mayfield High School

Registration
Senior schedules will be issued August 4, 2008 beginning at 9:00am.
Junior schedules will be issued August 4, 2008 beginning at 1:30 pm.
Sophomore schedules will be issued August 5, 2008, beginning at 9:00am.

Freshmen schedules will be issued at the Freshmen orientation August 7 at 6:30pm.

Because of the new attendance policy, it is imperative that students begin classes the very first day of school.

Therefore, it is crucial that any schedule changes be completed the first three days of school.
Students who miss the first three days of school will be at risk of losing their requested classes
and will need to report to the guidance office to select new courses.

Bell Schedule
Zero Hour 7:15 - 8:45
First Hour 8:55 - 10:25
Second Hour 10:32 - 12:02
Lunch 12:02 - 12:52
Third Hour 12:52 - 2:28
Fourth Hour 2:35 - 4:05

Tardiness
Excessive tardiness is a discipline problem. Students have seven minutes to travel between classes. A student not present in the assigned classroom to the satisfaction of the teacher when the tardy bell rings can be locked out and sent to the detention room. A detention list of students who have been locked out will be published at the end of the day. Tardy students who do not report to detention can be suspended in-house or assigned lunch detention. Students will be sent to class after the bell has rung only in certain circumstances. The attendance clerk may accept notes from doctors or parents.

Late Arrival and Leaving Campus
To leave campus, a student must check out through the office. For illness and emergency, the student's parent or guardian will be telephoned and permission granted by the parent before the student will be allowed to leave. If the parent cannot be reached via telephone, the school nurse will be called to care for the student. No student may leave campus for a doctor's appointment without checking out through the office. A written request from the student's parent to the office is required. On returning from the appointment, the student must clear through the attendance office before going to class. It is recommended that all appointments be made before or after school. A permanent pass from the building must be obtained in the office by students who do not attend school all four periods. Any student who leaves campus in violation of this policy will be subject to disciplinary action.

Requirements for Enrollment
New students will provide the following:
  1. Official withdrawal papers from former school with complete list of current classes and withdrawal grades.
  2. Current immunization record.
  3. A statement of proof of residence.

After all papers are in order, the new student will be assigned classes based on his withdrawal form. Substitutions will be made for any classes not offered at Mayfield High School when possible. Evaluation of credits for graduation will be made from a completed official transcript.

Requirements for Withdrawal
Students withdrawing from Mayfield High School must request a withdrawal form from the registrar. Students will be withdrawn for the following reasons:
  1. Parent request in person or in writing with approval of administration
  2. Non-attendance. A student may be withdrawn after nine (9) consecutive days of absence.

Students are withdrawn and a transcript will be sent after:
  1. All fines and fees are paid
  2. All books are returned or restitution made
  3. All classes are cleared by teacher's signatures
  4. Books are cleared in library by librarians' signatures

Delayed School Opening
The Superintendent will determine if school will convene on school days when severe inclement weather and/or dangerous driving conditions exist. The decision to either call off school or delay opening for two hours shall be made by 6:30 AM. This decision will be conveyed to the media for general distribution to the public.
